THE SITUATION

A UHNW principal had relocated from New York to Miami eighteen months before the brief. Their New York EA had not relocated with them. In the intervening period they had managed without full EA support, relying on a part-time assistant and their own capacity. The arrangement had not scaled.

The principal had spent three months attempting to find an EA locally. Miami's senior EA market is materially thinner than New York's. Every candidate reviewed had been at Stage 2 at most. The role required a Stage 4 EA at minimum. Local supply simply did not exist at that level.

TalentSmiths was introduced by the principal's New York-based attorney, who had referred two previous clients.

WHAT WE DID

The brief made clear immediately that this was a relocation search. No local candidate was going to meet the requirement. The question was not whether to consider relocation candidates, but which market to draw from and how to structure the package to make relocation genuinely compelling.

TalentSmiths has placed relocation candidates from New York into Miami on multiple occasions. The profile that works in this context is specific: a Stage 3 or Stage 4 EA who has worked with a UHNW principal before, has personal flexibility around location, and is at a natural transition point in their career. The Miami lifestyle proposition is real. For the right candidate, it is a meaningful consideration.

The Circle was searched for New York-based candidates meeting this profile. Five candidates matched. Two were actively open to relocation. Both were presented at week three alongside a full relocation package structure that James had outlined during the brief.

The principal met both candidates during a visit to New York the following week. A second meeting was held in Miami two weeks later. An offer was made. The candidate accepted and relocated within six weeks of accepting.

“TalentSmiths understood that I was not hiring a scheduler. I was hiring someone to run the operational layer of my life. That distinction mattered enormously in who they put forward.”
